Structural Engineering Role in our Ottawa Office
Keller Engineering is a multi-disciplinary engineering firm that provides building and systems assessment and associated repair and renewal consulting services. Since the company’s formation in 1982, Keller Engineering has worked with a diverse range of clients across several markets including condominium, commercial, residential and public buildings.
We are looking for a dynamic, dedicated and hard-working individual to fill a Structural Engineering Role in our Ottawa Office. This position focus on structural restoration work and Ontario Building Code Part 9 building design, analysis, and alterations. It is not intended as a structural designer job for large scale new construction projects.
Applicants without past engineering consulting or relevant contracting experience will not be considered.
Work Schedule: 37.5 hours per week
Duties to include, but not be limited to performing or assisting in:
- Visual and destructive investigations required to diagnose specific problems related to building envelope or its structure and recommend repair options
- Part 9 building structural analysis and design
- Structural condition assessments and detailed report preparation
- Prepare technical engineering drawings and specifications for restoration projects in accordance with established codes and standards. Ability to Use CAD for drawing production is considered an Asset.
- Prepare structural building permit drawings for Part 9 buildings
- On-site field reviews of building envelope and structural restoration projects for general conformance
- Perform contract administration
- Workload management and mentoring of junior engineering staff
- Will act as project lead and be responsible for budgets, meeting key milestones/deadlines, all client interactions, and project management responsibilities.
- Business development and sales
Professional Requirements:
- Civil/Structural programs of University Level Engineering programs.
- 5-10 years experience at engineering consulting firm
- Attained or working toward professional engineering license
- Must be willing to work at heights, including climbing ladders, operating swing stages, and accessing rooftops
- A valid driver’s license and access to insured vehicle for travel to project sites is required (work related mileage is reimbursed)
- Own personal form of transportation.
Coveted Skills:
- Ability to manage several tasks and prioritize these are required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Effective and responsive communication with the project team and clients.
- Working knowledge of building components, building envelope and structural system preferred.
- Knowledge of building and fire codes is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
