Project Lead – Mechanical
Keller Engineering is a multi-disciplinary engineering firm that provides building and systems assessment and associated repair and renewal consulting services. Since the company’s formation in 1982, Keller Engineering has worked with a diverse range of clients across several markets including condominium, commercial, residential and public buildings.
We are looking for a dynamic, dedicated and hard-working individual to fill a Senior Mechanical Engineering role (Specific title would be Project Lead – Mechanical) in our Ottawa Office. Experience and knowledge in electrical engineering is not required but would be considered an asset to expand on this role.
Applicants without past HVAC, Plumbing, Fit-Up engineering consulting will not be considered.
Work Schedule: 37.5 hours per week
The Project Lead – Mechanical position is responsible for designing, repairing and applying knowledge of engineering principles for systems such as Ventilation Systems, Heating & A/C Systems, Plumbing Systems, Pool Mechanical Systems and Sump Pumps.
Duties to include, but not be limited to performing or assisting in:
- Design and provide consultation services required for mechanical system replacement in residential and commercial buildings ranging in size.
- Specialize in energy systems, applied mechanics engineering and maintenance.
- Review, evaluate and improve upon engineering schematics and specifications prepared.
- Conduct final inspection and recommend acceptance or rejection of completed designs and replacements.
- Improve operations, reduce turnaround times, and optimize processes to provide seamless quality of engineering services.
- Verify and validate engineering designs by analyzing statistical data.
- Will act as project lead and be responsible for budgets, meeting key milestones/deadlines, all client interactions, and project management responsibilities.
- Assist with the development of project plans, project costing, and coordinating the efforts of other engineers, designers and drafters to support cross-functional collaboration.
- Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
- Collaborate with other departments (e.g. Building Sciences) to ensure project success.
- Ensure that designs are safe, efficient, effective, and able to be manufactured.
- Evaluate various mechanical products under consideration for purchase to determine their efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Determine budget requirements for mechanical systems and submit budgetary recommendations.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with local, national, and international standards and legislation.
- Perform contract administration
- Workload management and mentoring of junior engineering staff

Professional Requirements:
- University degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Must carry Professional Engineer designation or in process of working towards this license
- Minimum 5 years of direct work experience in mechanical engineering consulting or contracting
- Proficiency with AutoCAD software is essential.
- Ability to integrate new technologies and code updates to ensure that the company is meeting its high quality goals and objectives.
- Working knowledge of risk analysis and relevant legislative compliance.
- Proven track record in managing large project budgets.
- Ability to identify key financial performance indicators and their relationship with project indicators.
- Excellent grasp of diverse, fundamental mechanical engineering concepts and relationships.
- Practical experience with risk management, product testing, capability studies, and control plans.
- Highly motivated and self-directed capable of multi-tasking, and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to create and review technical documentation, including project plans, test procedures, and design documents.
Coveted Skills:
- Ability to manage several tasks and prioritize these are required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Effective and responsive communication with the project team and clients.
- Working knowledge of building components, mechanical and electrical system preferred.
- Knowledge of building and fire codes is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
