Keller Engineering is a multi-disciplinary engineering and building science firm that provides building and systems assessment and associated repair and renewal consulting services. Since the company’s formation in 1982, Keller Engineering has worked with a diverse range of clients across several markets including condominium, commercial, residential, and public buildings.
We are looking for a dynamic, dedicated, and hard-working individual to fill the position of Project Engineer / Engineer in Training (or Specialist if not P.Eng) in our Ottawa Office.
Work Schedule: 37.5 hours per week
Position Description
The Project Engineer/Specialist is responsible for performing reserve fund studies, performance audits, and property condition assessments. The Project Engineer/Specialist collaborates closely with internal teams and external clients, contributing to project planning, reviewing client documentation including drawings, and preparing quantity take-offs, while maintaining quality control and working closely with the Team Manager and other team members to meet client and organizational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Reports, Analysis & Project Execution:

Conduct reserve fund studies, performance audits, and property condition assessments; prepare clear, comprehensive reports.

Investigate building components and systems to diagnose specific issues and recommend effective repair or remediation options.

Communicate project status, including milestones, deliverables, dependencies, risks, and issues, across internal leadership.

Engage with clients to review and discuss engineering findings, reports, and recommendations.

Maintain ongoing professional development to stay current with evolving standards, best practices, and technologies.

Perform other related duties as required to support project and organizational needs.
Project Support & Communication:

Assist Project Leads with project planning, scheduling, and budgeting.

Coordinate with clients, contractors, and suppliers to support smooth execution of projects.

Provide regular updates to project stakeholders regarding milestones, deliverables, and identified risks or issues.

Ensure all deliverables meet internal and client quality standards.
Collaboration:
-
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to achieve project objectives and meet deadlines.

Contribute to team accountability efforts by supporting clear roles, responsibilities, and milestone tracking.

Review and enhance existing report formats and templates to improve clarity and usability.

Mentor and coach junior engineers and co-op students, supporting their professional development.

Collaborate with junior staff to develop project strategies and provide feedback on draft reports.

Supervise and guide junior team members and co-op students in executing their project tasks.

Support Project Associates with technical guidance and mentorship as needed.
Qualifications
Education:
Certified Building Technologist in Architectural, Civil/Structural or Building Science related programs, or a graduate of a college or university-level program in Architectural, Civil/Structural, or Building Science Engineering.
Experience:
1–2 years of experience with building condition assessment, reserve fund studies, capital planning, or property management would be considered an asset.
Skills:

Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and engineering analysis software (e.g., SAP2000, RISA).

Strong oral communication and technical writing skills.

Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Effective and responsive communication with the project team and clients.

Working knowledge of building components, building envelope, and structural systems preferred. Mechanical and electrical knowledge an asset but not required.

Basic knowledge of construction materials and products.

Working knowledge of building condition assessment methodology.

Knowledge of building and fire codes is an asset but not required.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required.

A valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle for travel to project sites is required (work-related mileage is reimbursed).

Must be willing to work at heights, including climbing ladders and accessing rooftops.
