The Building complex consists of a multi-storey
parkade built around 1968 and a plaza deck and 16-storey apartment
tower built above the parkade around 1979. The structures were built
using post-tensioned concrete construction, except for the conventionally
reinforced concrete swimming pool located on the apartment tower
plaza deck. Levels 1 and 2 of the parkade have conventional slab-on-grade
construction.
In 1995, extensive repair and maintenance work
was implemented at the parkade, plaza deck and apartment tower to
ensure the long term serviceability of this building complex. These
repairs included:
the non-destructive evaluation of all post-tensioning
tendons in the parkade and the plaza deck and replacement of 228
tendons which were identified by RIMT® as having failed or being
significantly corroded.
repairs to the concrete pool and installation of
a pool liner
installation of waterproofing on balconies, on the
plaza deck, and on the parkade slabs
installation of an acrylic coating on all exposed
concrete wall surfaces and balcony soffits.
