A condition survey in 2001 of the reinforced
concrete balconies revealed the need for major repairs.
Although repairs to the balcony slabs were envisaged, the
poor placement of the critical reinforcing steel during
the original construction led to the decision to re-construct
the balconies completely and replace the railings with modern
aluminum railings.
